Bring the kids any time to go on the KIDS‘ TREASURE HUNT IN THE GALLERIES – a guide of fun things to find in our current shows. Parents enjoy the interaction of sharing art with the children and the children are given a special prize to take home.

COMIC BOOK DESIGN

Are you interested in writing or drawing, or just finding a way to put your imagination down on a page? Join and explore the wonderful medium of comics! You’ll create a cartoon character, develop a story, and show action and excitement in your very own comic book design.
 

 
FASHION DESIGN FOR KIDS      NEW!

Do you love fashion? Come learn the basics of fashion design! This series of fashion design classes will enable the young designer to draw and design fashions for girls and women. Learn about the processes used by fashion designers, and how to sketch the fashion figure. To begin, we’ll create a fashion inspiration book, and then a fashion textile book to show fabrics used for different designs. You’ll learn how to draw a fashion figure, and basic shapes and silhouettes for various styles; you’ll also make a poster of favorite fashion styles, and create your own line of clothes.

CREATIONS IN CLAY       NEW!

8 weeks / Tuesdays, Sept 30 - Nov 18 / 3:30 - 5 pm
Members: $90    Non-members: $110      Elementary ages
Explore a variety of hand-building techniques for all skill levels and abilities. By rolling, coiling, and pinching clay, students will create unique objects both functional and sculptural. Using the basic skills learned in class, everyone will be encouraged to investigate new ideas and subjects. Sources of inspiration will depend on student’s interests. Begin with a small cup form and then proceed to more involved projects. Dig into some clay!

Blow out the candles and celebrate your creativity in this multi-media adventure.  Create clay cupcakes, and design birthday cakes like artist Wayne Thiebaud.  Tell your story in a found object sculpture.  Explore the art of Picasso in a crazy-mixed up portrait combining drawing, painting, collage and digital imagery.  I can’t wait to celebrate the artist in you on your “very merry unbirthday”.

INTRO TO DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY FOR KIDS      NEW!

4 weeks / Thursdays, Sept 25 - Oct 16 / 3:30 - 5 pm
Members: $35    Non-members: $55      Ages 10 – 15

The emphasis in this class will be placed on understanding the digital camera and creating fun pictures! We will discuss basic camera handling, camera settings and composition for great photos. Students will come away with a basic understanding of digital photography and a thorough knowledge of their camera. All types of digital cameras will be discussed from point-and-shoots to digital single-lens reflexes. Students must bring their camera and owners manual to the first class.

ADVANCED INTRO TO PHOTOGRAPHY FOR KIDS      NEW!

4 weeks / Thursdays, Oct 23 - Nov 13 / 3:30 - 5 pm
Members: $35    Non-members: $55      Ages 10 – 15

A continuation of the Intro Class, this class will further promote concepts of digital image technique and fundamentals. Advanced composition, archiving of digital files and printing will be discussed. Emphasis will be placed on creative photographic style in shooting. Students must bring their camera and owners manual to the first class.

CLAY TECHNIQUES      NEW!

8 weeks / Saturdays, Sept 27 - Nov 15 / 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
Members: $140   Non-members: $160     Middle and High School

Explore creative hand-building techniques, glazing methods and basic throwing on a potter’s wheel. Students will use a variety of exciting techniques to create a set of ceramic dishware inspired by popular Japanese culture. Decorative elements including patterns from nature and Japanese calligraphy will be introduced as a final principle of design. This is a great class for students to add quality work to their portfolios, or to simply experience the basics of working with clay.
